Rose Sargent, Employment and Skills Advisor, Make UK said:
“Today manufacturers celebrate the achievements of young people receiving their T Level, A Level and VTQ results – especially the first ever set of students to complete engineering and manufacturing T Levels. The first T level coalition with industry was an overwhelming success, with 93.7% of students completing an industry placement in engineering and manufacturing, demonstrating the willingness of the sector to invest in the next generation.
Manufacturers will be pleased to see top grades being awarded at A Level for STEM subjects – particularly for female students – and in other engineering and manufacturing qualifications. Employers are crying out for these skills and qualifications which will be critical as we transition to a more digital and green economy.
The overwhelming message from industry today is that we have a wealth of exciting opportunities for young people to enter skilled work or further learning through an apprenticeship. But we still need a major drive to encourage more girls to take engineering pathways, whether apprenticeships and T levels, so they can enjoy a career in a sector which provides some of the best-paid, high-quality and interesting jobs around the whole of the UK.”
