‘Fireraising’ trial set for Labour peer

Labour peer Lord Watson will go on trial in September for charges of wilful fireraising.

Mr Watson, MSP for Glasgow Cathcart, was charged in connection with an incident in November in the Prestonfield Hotel, Edinburgh.

The Labour Party has suspended Mr Watson, 56, after he appeared in court on two charges

The incident in question followed the Scottish Politician of the Year dinner at the Edinburgh hotel.

The trial is scheduled to begin on 5th September. The indictment will first call at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on 23rd August, where he can formally enter his plea.
