Committee chairs announced

In the wake of the general election in May, the select committee memberships for the next parliamentary session were chosen as follows:

Frank Doran, Labour MP for Aberdeen North, is the chairman of the administration committee and heads up a committee of nine Labour MPs (including himself), five Conservatives, one Liberal Democrat and a member of the SNP. (Website)

In the constitutional affairs committee, Alan Beith, Liberal Democrat member for Berwick-upon-Tweed is chairman. In this committee there are two other Lib Dems, three Conservatives and six Labour MPs. (Website)

Conservative MP for Maldon and East Chelmsford John Whittingdale is chairman of the new culture, media and sport committee and he will be joined by two other Tories, six Labour MPs, a Lib Dem and a Plaid Cymru MP. (Website)

On defence, James Arbuthnot, Tory MP for North East Hampshire, takes the chair. In this committee there are a total of four Conservatives, two Liberal Democrats and eight Labour MPs. (Website)

Barry Sheerman, Labour MP for Huddersfield, retains the chairmanship of the education and skills committee. He is joined by five other Labour MPs, three Conservatives and two Lib Dems. (Website)

Conservative MP for Fylde Michael Jack chairs the environment, food and rural affairs committee flanked by three other Tory MPs, eight Labour MPs and one Lib Dem. (Website)

Jimmy Hood, Labour MP for Lanark and Hamilton East chairs the European scrutiny committee, one of nine Labour representatives. The rest of the committee is made up of five Conservative MPs, one member of the SNP and one Lib Dem. (Website)

The finance committee is chaired by Sir Stuart Bell, Labour MP for Middlesbrough, and made up of a total of five Labour MPs, one Liberal Democrat and five Conservatives. (Website)

Labour member of parliament for Ilford South, Mike Gapes, is chairman of the foreign affairs committee along with seven others from his party, four Conservatives and two Liberal Democrats. (Website)

The health committee is chaired by Kevin Barron, Labour MP for Rother Valley, and comprises one independent MP, six Labour MPs, one Liberal Democrat and three Conservatives. (Website)

On home affairs, Southampton Itchen MP John Denham chairs a committee made up of seven fellow Labour MPs, four Conservatives and three Lib Dems. (Website)

The Liberal Democrat MP for Gordon, Malcolm Bruce, chairs an international development committee that includes one other Lib Dem, three Conservatives and six Labour MPs. (Website)

Leader of the house Geoff Hoon, Labour MP for Ashfield, chairs the modernisation committee, and is joined by seven other Labour MPs, five Conservatives and two Liberal Democrats. (Website)

The committee on Northern Ireland is chaired by Tory MP for South Staffordshire Sir Patrick Cormack, and includes two members of the DUP, one SDLP member, one Ulster Unionist, one more Conservative and seven Labour MPs. (Website)

Milton Keynes MP Dr Phyllis Starkey (Labour) is the chairman on the office of deputy prime minister committee, which includes five other Labour members, two Liberal Democrats and three Conservatives. (Website)

The procedure committee is chaired by Sir Nicholas Winterton, Tory MP for Macclesfield, and made up of seven Labour MPs, four Conservatives including Sir Nicholas and two Lib Dems. (Website)

Edward Leigh, Conservative MP for Gainsborough, is chairman of the committee of public accounts, and he is joined by four other Tories, one Liberal Democrat and eight Labour MPs. (Website)

Six Labour members, including the chairman Tony Wright, MP for Cannock Chase, sit on the public administration committee, along with two Liberal Democrats and three Conservatives. (Website)

Phil Willis, Lib Dem MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, is chairman of the science and technology committee, on which one other Lib Dem MP sits alongside three Conservatives and six Labour MPs. (Website)

On the Scottish affairs committee, the chairman is Mohammed Sarwar, Labour MP for Glasgow Central. The rest of the committee is made up of one Lib Dem, five Labour MPs, one independent MP and one SNP. (Website)

Conservative MP for Mid Worcestershire, Peter Luff, is chairman of the trade and industry committee. It includes eight Labour MPs, four Tories in total, one member of the Lib Dems and one SNP member. (Website)

Gwyneth Dunwoody, Labour MP for Crewe and Nantwich, is chairman of the transport committee, which is made up of five other Labour MPs, one Lib Dem, three Tories and a member of the DUP. (Website)

The Treasury committee is made up of eight Labour MPs, including the chairman, West Dunbartonshire MP John McFall; two Liberal Democrats and four Conservatives. (Website)

And finally, on the work and pensions committee sit two Liberal Democrats, three Conservatives and six Labour MPs, including the chairman, Terry Rooney of Bradford North.
