ID cards drop in support
ID cards are falling out of favour with the public according to campaign group NO2ID.
It has released the results of an ICM poll showing that just 55 per cent of the population support the ID card proposals, and 43 per cent think they are a bad or very bad idea.
The Government has previously suggested that around 80 per cent of the population supported ID cards.
Phil Booth, NO2ID national coordinator, said: “Now that the opposition parties are against the bill, Labour MPs would do well to note the growing discontent in the country – or they could find themselves voting for what will become Labour’s Poll Tax.
“NO2ID has seen growing support for a substantive opposition movement in past months and our new pledge campaign, launched today, is intended to demonstrate the level of bedrock resistance to this invasive, expensive and catastrophically untrustworthy scheme.”
