Man enters Buckingham Palace

A man was arrested yesterday in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

Police said the 27-year-old man was discovered near the perimeter wall at around 02:00GMT Wednesday yesterday.

The man was questioned and later released on bail.

A woman was also detained in The Mall, the road that leads to the palace.

The woman claimed to be assisting police with their inquiries.

She was not arrested, police said.

Police sources said the incident was unconnected with terrorism and was more of a drunken prank.

Police said it took 20 minutes from the time of the alarm going off to the time of the man’s arrest.

Security was tightened at the Palace in 1982 after Michael Fagan entered the Queen’s bedroom and spent half an hour chatting to the Queen before guards arrived.
