Starmer says he has not spoken to Corbyn since 2020 suspension

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said he has not spoken with Jeremy Corbyn since October 2020.

Starmer’s predecessor was initially suspended from the Labour party last October last he suggested accusations of antisemitism under his leadership had been “dramatically overstated”.

Sir Keir told the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast yesterday that he had not spoken with Corbyn since the night before the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report on antisemitism within the party was published the same month.

While the Islington North MP has since been readmitted to the party, Sir Keir has prevented him from returning as a Labour MP unless he apologises for his response to the report.

When asked whether Corbyn could be deselected ahead of the next general election, he said: “I don’t know, but at the moment that may be the case.”
