SNP MP in hospital after fall at Westminster

Reports have emerged that the SNP MP, Allan Dorans, has been admitted to hospital following a fall at Westminster earlier this week.

According to the Daily Record newspaper, the MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock suffered a ‘serious fall’ in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon.  He was taken by ambulance to St Thomas’ Hospital, across the Thames in Westminster.

Mr Dorans is said to have suffered a serious facture of his upper leg.

Mr Dorans told the Daily Record that he was in “excruciating pain” but that “morphine was helping a bit”.  He is expected to have an operation and remain in hospital for over a week.

Mr Dorans, who is aged 66, has more experience of London life than many of his colleagues in the SNP having once worked in the Met Police.  He became a detective inspector in the force at the comparatively young age of 28.

Mr Dorans was previously hospitalized with Covid-19 earlier in the pandemic.
