Shadow Scottish Secretary defends his support of the national football team

Ian Murray, the Labour MP for Edinburgh South, has underlined his support for the Scottish national team on Twitter.

Having voiced his support for Scotland in the lead up to their match yesterday versus Israel, he was called out for being a Scottish “traitor” due to his support for the union.

Murray tweeted in response: “It now seems the case that you aren’t allow[ed] to support the Scotland national football team nor even wish them well unless you are a separatist”, adding – “by the way, it’s my team too”.

Murray has been the MP for Edinburgh South since 2010, and from 2015-2017 he was the only Labour MP elected from a Scottish constituency. He has been a vocal supporter of the union in his time in parliament and is presently the shadow Secretary of State for Scotland.
