Shadow defence secretary claims army restructuring breaks election promises
Labour’s shadow defence secretary John Healey has said that today’s announcement to restructure the British contradicts an 2019 election promise not to cut the size of the armed forces.
The MP for Wentworth and Dearne told the Commons that the restructuring is motivated by the wish to save money, and that the proposals could create a British army that is “too small, too thinly-stretched and too poorly-equipped” to deal with the threats the UK faces.
