Foreign aid needed to solve migrant crisis, says Starmer

When asked how Labour would handle the ongoing migrant crisis on the Channel, party leader Sir Keir Starmer said a “long-term solution” was required.

His comments came after his address to the Confederation of British Industry’s (CBI) annual conference today in South Shields.

He complained that “the government is cutting foreign aid” and that “upstream” spending was needed to stop migration flows at their source.

He said that better cooperation with France was needed in the short-term.
