PM urges countries to ‘pull together’ as COP26 enters final week

Talks in Glasgow are entering their final week with PM Johnson urging participants to “pull together and drive for the line”. Talks are expected to centre around securing what is needed to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C, alongside initiatives to provide finance for poor countries adapting to a changing climate.

Prime Minister said that countries must “make the bold compromises and ambitious commitments needed”. “There is one week left for COP26 to deliver for the world”.

In the first half of COP26, a series of announcements were made including the summit’s first major deal which saw over 100 world leaders promise to reverse and end deforestation by 2030.

So far, experts and climate change campaigners have welcomed such commitments, but have urged the climate change summit to strive for more. Shadow business secretary Ed Miliband pushed both the PM and the conference to take “major steps” to ensure global warming does not exceed 1.5C.
