PM says he has ‘no idea’ if he could receive more Covid fines

Prime minister Boris Johnson has admitted he has “no idea” if he could receive further fines for breaching Covid rules.

Quizzed over the so-called “partygate” scandal by ITV’s Good Morning Britain programme, Johnson said he could not comment on the matter until the Metropolitan Police had wrapped up its criminal investigation.

He explained to the broadcaster: “I have apologised for the things that we got wrong during the pandemic and I repeat those apologies.”

However when asked if he expected a further fixed penalty notice, Johnson said: “I have no idea.”

He also told the programme that he was an “honest speaker”.

Last month a No 10 spokesperson confirmed that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were fined over the PM’s 2020 birthday gathering, stating: “on 19th June 2020 at the Cabinet Room 10 Downing Street between 1400 and 1500 you participated in a gathering of two or more people indoors in the Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street”.
