No current evidence for tighter Covid restrictions, says PM

The prime minister has said while he is “concerned” about Covid, there is no evidence tighter restrictions are currently required.

He said there was “nothing in the data” to suggest the UK ought to trigger its Plan B, but said the UK must be “humble in the face of nature” during the CBI’s annual conference in South Shields this morning.

“The best single thing you can all do is get your booster” he said, emphasising: “When you are called forward to get it, please do so.”

‘Plan B’ was laid out by ministers earlier this year, and would bring back compulsory mask-wearing for crowded spaces and encourage working from home.
