New poll suggests most voters think PM should quit over ‘Partygate’ probes

The majority of British adults now think Boris Johnson should resign over the police investigation into lockdown gatherings at No 10.

The fresh figures from the JHL Partners polling firm shows that just a quarter of British voters believe the prime minister should remain in office.

The new poll also concluded that four in five agreed that Boris Johnson “broke the coronavirus regulations with parties in Downing Street”.

Of the  2,000 respondents quizzed over the Met Police’s criminal probe into the ‘Partygate’ affair, 55 per cent said the investigation ought to continue continue, while 36 per cent thought the country needed to now move on from the accusations that has dominated headlines in recent weeks.

Seventy-one per cent of 2019 Conservative voters polled said that the prime minister had not followed the government’s Covid rules and 63 per cent agreed that both the criminal probe and Sue Gray’s internal report should continue.
