Labour calls for ‘cautious, common sense approach’ in the run up to Christmas

Speaking to Sky News’ “Trevor Phillips on Sunday” this morning, shadow Environment Secretary and Labour MP Jim McMahon urged the government to take a “cautious, common sense approach” in the run up to Christmas.

Mr McMahon was appointed to his new rule in last week’s shadow Cabinet reshuffle.

Mr McMahon insisted that “for large gatherings, testing should be taking place” but nonetheless stressed the case for “a balanced approach” to Covid restrictions.

“We don’t want to have unnecessarily silly rules in place”, he added.

Mr McMahon refused to commit his or the Labour party’s support for mandatory vaccine passports.
