Insulate Britain block M25 slip road in Essex

According to reports from TalkRADIO, the eco-protest group Insulate Britain have blocked an M25 slip road in Thurrock.

The Extinction Rebellion offshoot group has targeted major motorways and A-roads across London and nearby. They are demanding that UK homes be retrofit with better insulation.

Last week the government took out a fresh injunction to target protesters who cause disruption on any of the highways on the Strategic Road Network linked to the M25 in the south east.

The new injunction bans activities that obstruct traffic and access to motorways and major A Roads in and around London. It also bans activities which cause damage to the road surface and infrastructure and prohibits activists from gluing themselves to the road or abandoning their vehicles.

Anyone who breaks this injunction faces imprisonment or an unlimited fine. Activists found in contempt of court may also be forced to repay the costs of their case.

One member of the protest group in Essex this morning showed her injunction papers to TalkRADIO and said she intends to keep blocking roads.

The group received sharp criticisms over last month after a mother was left paralysed from a stroke after the M25 gridlock caused by their roadblocks meant an ambulance could not reach her for 6 hours.

Last week Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen praised motorists filmed dragging Insulate Britain activists off Wandsworth Bridge to allow an ambulance to pass.

GB News presenter and former Brexit party leader Nigel Farage dubbed the group “eco-terrorists”.

Other protest locations have included the Blackwall Tunnel where LBC London Radio captured the moment a woman stuck in the traffic accosted with protesters preventing her from travelling to her elderly mother who she said was in hospital in Kent.
