Full Sue Gray report could push Boris Johnson to quit, reports allege

The Times newspaper have alleged that senior Whitehall officials think Boris Johnson may quit following the full publication of the Sue Gray report.

The newspaper has published the testimony of an anonymous Whitehall official who says the report’s findings are “excoriating” and directly criticise Johnson.

They told the Times that: “Sue’s report is excoriating. It will make things incredibly difficult for the prime minister.”

“There’s an immense amount of pressure on her [Gray]— her report could be enough to end him,” they said.

Gray’s initial report, published in January, said the gatherings represented a “serious failure” of judgement and leadership in No 10 and the Cabinet Office.

Over 300 photos and 500 documents were passed on to police by the Cabinet Office in January.

Earlier this month a No 10 spokesperson confirmed that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak were fined over the PM’s 2020 birthday gathering, stating: “on 19th June 2020 at the Cabinet Room 10 Downing Street between 1400 and 1500 you participated in a gathering of two or more people indoors in the Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street”.

In an interview with Sky News earlier today, technology minister Chris Philp dodged questions over the reports.

Philp told the broadcaster: “I am not going to speculate about what this report may or may not say.

“We will obviously, I am sure, debate it very amply when it gets published.”
