Environment Secretary defends progress at COP26

Speaking to Sky New’s “Trevor Phillips on Sunday” this morning, Environment Secretary George Eustice said that while the UK is “never going to be able to get everybody to move” on climate policy, there is “excitement and enthusiasm” for the progress that has been made so far.

This came after host Phillips pointed out that some of the biggest coal users — such as Australia and China — have not made substantial commitments at the climate conference.

And climate analysts and experts have said that hitting the target of keeping global warming within 1.5C is “close to zero” without further commitments from these countries.

COP 26 is now entering its final week of negotiations, with growing pressure from activists for climate progress.
