Dawn Butler MP diagnosed with breast cancer

Dawn Butler, the Labour MP for Brent Central has this morning confirmed a diagnosis with breast cancer.

In a statement, Ms Butler said, “Back in early November, I attended a routine mammogram and a few weeks later the hospital informed me that they had identified breast cancer cells at a very early stage”.

Continuing, the 52 year old MP said, “It is a shock but an early diagnosis means that it is something that I will get through and over.  The NHS has caught my cancer early, the operation was a complete success, and I will make a full recovery”

Ms Butler, who served in the Shadow Cabinet under Jeremy Corbyn describes herself as a ’workaholic’ but has confirmed that she will now be taking time off from front line politics for her recovery.

Responding to the news, Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer said on Twitter, ‘”Dawn, your bravery, strength and determination shine through.  I am sorry you’re going through this, but know that I, and the whole party are behind you”.
