Conservative MP calls those protesting low pay and cost of living ‘morons’

Conservative MP for Bassetlaw, Brendan Clarke-Smith, has labelled protesters at a jobs fair he organised in his constituency “morons”.

Mr Clarke-Smith said protestors had bussed in from “Chesterfield, Nottingham and Broxtowe” in order to disrupt the occasion. He described the demonstration as “purely political”.

The protest was understood to made up of mainly B&Q distribution workers who had gone on strike. However, spotting the presence of Socialist Worker party members and Broxtowe Labour organisers, Mr Clarke-Smith said this was “nothing to do with B&Q workers”.

He added: “What sort of morons picket a jobs fair?”.
