‘Our job is to provide ethical and moral guidance’: Should Bishops remain in the House of Lords?

The 26 Bishops who sit in the House of Lords today or ‘The Lords Spiritual’ date back to the 14th century. But, their place in parliament has been cause of debate and controversy.

Whilst the bishops say that their role is vital in order to provide ethical advice, many argue that intertwining religion and policymaking is wrong and that the tradition is out-dated.

We spoke to Rt Revd Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham and Andrew Copson of Humanists UK to hear why or why not they think the bishops should remain in the House of Lords.
