No To AV: Clegg ‘scared’ of voters

A spokesman for the No To AV campaign said in response to the deputy prime minister’s decision not to attend a debate on AV in his home constituency:

“Nick Clegg is running scared from the voters. It speaks volumes that he doesn’t have the decency to explain to his constituents why he wants to spend £250 million of their money on the alternative vote, but feels comfortable defending this expensive con to the political village.

“Once again, the ‘anti-politician’ claims of the ‘yes’ to AV campaign lie in tatters. The AV referendum was bargained for, and is now being promoted by, the Liberal Democrats. That’s because they know that under the alternative vote the only vote that really counts is Nick Clegg’s.”
