RMT: Councillors saving their own necks

Bob Crow, general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), comments on the letter from Lib Dem councillors opposing government cuts:

“The harsh reality of the government cuts programme is hitting the Lib Dems where it hurts, in the ballot box. It was always only a matter of time before their grass roots started to rebel as it dawns on them that they are nothing more than human shields for a bunch of Thatcherite, millionaire, public school boys.

“The self-interest of Lib Dem councillors in trying to save their own necks from an angry electorate is now well and truly in play.

“The trade unions and the Coalition of Resistance will now exploit these divisions for all they are worth. The gutless approach to the bankers by the ConDems, while nurses are being sacked and services are savaged, shows us that this government’s cuts aren’t driven by necessity they are driven by ideology.”
