Whip must be restored to two-child cap rebels, says firefighters’ union

Labour has withdrawn the whip from seven MPs who voted for an amendment to scrap the two child cap on benefits last night.

Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union general secretary, said:

“1.6 million children are affected by the two child cap, and 300,000 childen live in poverty as a result of it. The UK is a rich country with ample resources for everyone to live a decent life.

“The seven MPs who voted to scrap the cap spoke for millions of trade union members and many Labour Party members. Keir Starmer must restore the whip to them immediately.”
