Ben Wallace was first elected as the Conservative MP for Wyre and Preston North in 2005, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 16,781.
Wyre and Preston North is a largely rural seat in Lancashire found to the east of Blackpool and containing the suburban north of Preston.  It includes the towns of Poulton-le-Fylde, Garstang, and Catterall.  It is an affluent constituency which has been a long standing safe Conservative seat. However with this seat being abolished by the recent boundary commission review, Mr Wallace has announced that he is to step down from Westminster at the next election.
Wallace was appointed Secretary of State for Defence in 2019. He was at the forefront of the UK government’s response to the war in Ukraine before he stepped down from the role in September 2023.
Wallace previously served as Minister for Security and Economic Crime between 2016 and 2019, and Minister of State for Northern Ireland between 2015-2016, and a government whip between 2014-2015.
Born in 1970, Wallace attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.  Before entering politics he served for eight years in the Scots Guards. After leaving the army, he worked in the aerospace industry.
Wallace previously served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for North East Scotland between 1999 and 2003.
He then worked as the Overseas Director of QinetiQ (Europe’s biggest Research technology Organisation) before being elected to Westminster in 2005.
He supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum, but is a long standing ally of Boris Johnson and supported him in the 2019 Conservative leadership election.
Mr Wallace is married with two children. He enjoys skiing, sailing and rugby. When he was younger he briefly worked as a Ski Instructor in Austria. He enjoys Rugby, Skiing and Horse Racing.
