A new funding pot for those wanting to gain practical skills in the land and nature-based industry has been described as a “great opportunity” by BASC Scotland.

People can apply for £500 or more to cover the cost of various practical and technical courses. Courses include first aid training and safe use of chainsaws and ATVs.

The Scottish Government’s £250,000 Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption Practical Training Fund is to be administered by Lantra and delivered through the SkillSeeder platform. Applications will close at the end of March.

Colin Shedden, BASC Scotland director, said: “This is a great opportunity for land-based workers to upskill and broaden their opportunities.

“It is hoped this fund will help both newcomers and those already established in the sector. Many of the courses will be of interest to BASC members.”
