Historical moments during the Queen’s reign

Her late Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, acceded to the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father George VI in February 1952. She was proclaimed queen by her privy and executive councils shortly afterwards. Her coronation ceremony was not until 1953, however.

She is our longest-reigning monarch, and has lived through countless periods of change and history.
