Debate in 2 minutes: Scrapping HS2

MPs had their say whether or not to scrap HS2 in a packed Westminster Hall debate this evening.

The e-petition, brought forward by Chris Packham, calls on Parliament to stop work on HS2 and hold a new vote to repeal the legislation. The petition has gained over 155,000 signatures.

Opening the debate, Coventry North West MP Taiwo Owatemi argued there is “diminished public faith” in the government’s ability to handle major infrastructure projects like HS2.

Closing the debate, minister for HS2 Andrew Stephenson claimed that HS2 had “been subject to more parliamentary scrutiny than any other infrastructure project.”
