Richmond MP Susan Kramer has been embarrassed after her local party were forced to return four donations made to the Liberal Democrats by her son.

The Electoral Commission said the party’s Twickenham and Richmond accounting unit had forfeited donations totalling £1,328.20 from Jonathan Kramer, a well-known activist within the local party.

As he was not on the electoral register at the time the donations were made, on the last days of the month from December 2009 to March 2009, they are impermissible under section 54 of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

“The Twickenham and Richmond Liberal Democrats have voluntarily forfeited the donation, and therefore legal action by the Commission is not necessary,” a statement said.

A spokesperson for the Lib Dems said: “The money was donated by Susan’s son who was unaware his name had fallen off the electoral register.

“The money was paid back after the error was pointed out.”
