Second round of leadership vote result today

The result of the second round of voting in the Conservative leadership contest is expected at 15.00BST today.

The voting is part of several rounds due to take place this week in order to whittle the candidates down to two by the end of next week.

The ballot opens at 11:30BST.

The candidates in today’s vote are (in order of most to least votes received in yesterday’s round): Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Lizz Truss, Kemi Badenoch, Tom Tugendhat, Suella Braverman.

Jeremy Hunt and Nadhim Zahawi were eliminated from the competition yesterday as they failed to reach the minimum threshold of 30 votes to progress to the next round of the contest.

Hunt declared that he will be backing Rishi Sunak, but it remains unknown who Zahawi will give his support to.

The candidate with the lowest amount of votes this afternoon will be eliminated from the race.
