A eurosceptic, right-wing populist party founded in 1993 that achieved its electoral peak at the 2014 European Parliament elections under Nigel Farage’s leadership. In 2015 it won 12.6% of the vote, nearly four million votes, but only one seat. Its pressure on the Conservatives contributed to David Cameron’s decision to hold the 2016 EU referendum. After the referendum it declined sharply amid internal splits, and its support largely transferred to the Brexit Party and Reform UK.
