An all-island democratic socialist and Irish republican party founded in 1905 that seeks the establishment of a united Irish republic. It is the only major party to contest elections in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It maintains a policy of abstentionism at Westminster, refusing to recognise the legitimacy of the parliament or swear an oath of allegiance to the British monarch.
