As Boris Johnson delivered his keynote Tory conference speech in October 2021, few could have imagined the chaotic months that would follow.


It began with the Owen Paterson sleaze scandal, and continues today with numerous allegations of lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street, which continue to emerge at the start of 2022.


The result has been the disintegration of the Conservative party’s lead in the opinion polls, handing Labour its biggest lead since 2013.
