The Political Agenda – Simon Cheng

Simon Cheng is a prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy activist, granted political asylum in the UK in 2020 after being arrested and tortured by the Chinese state.

Since arriving in the UK, Simon has set up Hongkongers in Britain, an organisation that helps Hong Kong citizens emigrating on the BNO visa scheme settle in Great Britain.

In this episode of The Political Agenda, Simon talks about the sacrifices of speaking out in support of democracy in Hong Kong, why he still doesn’t feel safe in the UK, and if he’ll ever be able to return to home.
