‘Absolutely crippling’ – Chris Scott’s story

Three years ago, Chris Scott invested over £80,000 into starting up his own photography company.

Working extremely long hours, the Dundee-based photographer was set for a record year in 2020, with 25 weddings booked in.

But once the pandemic struck, Chris’ work dried up, and he has since completed just one full wedding since March.

Despite his business going from strength-to-strength, Mr Scott missed out on financial support because he made a £134 loss over three years. In two of those years, he made a profit.

Like three million others, Chris is currently slipping through the net of Covid-19 financial assistance from the state.

Tracy Brabin, the MP for Batley and Spen launched her appeal to fill in gaps in financial support in a Ten Minute Rule Motion on Wednesday afternoon.

What is being excluded from financial help really like?
