Biography:

Stephen Twigg was re-elected MP for Liverpool West Derby on May 7th 2015 with 30842 votes, taking 75.2% of the vote.

Stephen started his political career in the 1990s, when he became the president of the National Union of Students. After University he was elected Councillor in Islington, North London, and in 1997 he won the constituency of Enfield Southgate, for which he served as MP for eight years. Between 2001 and 2005 he was a government minister, serving first as Deputy Leader of the House of Commons and then as an Education Minister. In 2010 he first covered the role of Labour and Co-operative MP for Liverpool West Derby. In 2011 he became Shadow Secretary of State for Education and, after the reshuffle, Shadow Justice Minister.

Born in 1966, Stephen studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Balliol College, Oxford. He is a patron of Merseyside Motor Neurone Disease Association and a patron of Amputees and Carer Support in Liverpool (ACSIL).
