Simmonds, David

David Simmonds CBE is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner‌‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 16,394 ‌over‌ ‌the‌ ‌Labour Party.

Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner is the most north westerly constituency in Greater London.  Home ownership is relatively high in this part of London and this is a relatively affluent constituency.  It has long been one of the few really safe Conservative Party seats in London.

‌‌Born in 1976, David‌ Simmonds was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at Durham University‌. Before being elected to Parliament, he worked‌ in financial services‌ for several high street banks‌.

Simmonds was first elected to the local Hillingdon Council in 1998, becoming the youngest Councillor in London at the time.  He then served as the Deputy Leader of Hillingdon Council between 2002 and 2019. He was also a local magistrate.

At a national level, Simmonds was previously the Chairman of the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Children and Young People Board from 2011-15. As Chairman of the LGA’s Asylum and Refugee Task Group he worked with the government on the resettlement programme for Syrian Refugees, and and the National Transfer Scheme to support refugee children.

He is Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Heathrow Expansion, Housing and Planning, Migration, Refugees, and Social Work.

Despite representing a neighbouring seat to the prime minister, he has not been afraid to quesiton the prime minister.  In May 2022, he suggested that Boris Johnson needed to confront the ‘partygate affair’ and that it had been responsible for heavy Conservative losses in the 2022 local elections.

He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children, London, Local Authority Pension Funds, Looked after Children, and the Teaching Profession.

Simmonds is married with two children.
