Michael Dugher

Biography:

Michael Dugher was re-elected as Labour MP for Bansley East on May 7th 2015 with 21079 votes, taking 54.7% of the vote.

Michael was born in Edlington, a pit village in South Yorkshire. He is married to Joanna and they have two daughters.

He went to school in Edlington and Doncaster, before graduating from the University of Nottingham.

Before being selected for Barnsley East, Michael worked at 10 Downing Street as Chief Political Spokesman for the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

He has previously worked as a Special Adviser in a variety of Government roles including in Transport, Local Government and the Regions; Defence; for the Leader of the House of Commons; and for the Government Chief Whip.

Michael has worked in industry for a global technology services business and was previously Head of Policy for the AEEU Engineering Union (now Unite).

In October 2011 he was appointed Shadow Minister without Portfolio. After that, he was appointed Vice Chair of the Labour Party (2011-2014), Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office (2013-2014) and Shadow Secretary of State for Transport (2014-2015).
