It is a long time Conservative seat, and holds the honour of being the highest supporting Brexit constituency in the UK, with over three quarters of the electorate supporting Leave in the 2016 EU referendum.

Warman served as Minister of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in July 2022.  He supported Rishi Sunak in the 2022 Conservative leadership election and was dismissed from the government by LiZ Truss when she became prime minister in September 2022.

He served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Digital and Broadband between 2019 and 2021. The portfolio covered digital and tech policy, online harms and security, digital infrastructure and digital skills.  Warman was previously a government whip.

Warman supported Remain the 2016 EU referendum, although later supported a No Deal Brexit in the House of Commons.

He backed Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative leadership election.

Born in 1981, Warman was educated at Durham University.  He worked for the Daily Telegraph from 1999 until 2015, focusing for most of the period on technology.
