Mangnall, Anthony

Anthony Mangnall is the Conservative MP for Totness, having first been elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election with a majority of 12,724.

Totness is found within the county of Devon and covers Dartmouth, Totnes and the other surrounding towns and villages in the south Devon area.  This constituency has been held by the Conservatives at every election since 1924, and has a strong farming and fishing presence.

Born in 1989, Anthony Mangnall grew up in Northern Ireland and Zimbabwe.  He was educated at the University of Exeter.  In his gap year, he worked as a shepherd and herdsman on the Isle of Mull.

Mangnall later worked as a shipbroker before being elected to Parliament, including spells in both the Middle East and the Far East.

He served as a researcher to former Foreign Secretary William Hague between 2010 and 2012, and was Special Advisor, to the Welsh Secretary, Alun Cairns between 2018 and 2019.

Mangnall was a supporter of Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.

He has been a critic of the government’s plans to reduce its overall spending on foreign aid.

In 2022, following the partygate affair, Mangnall was one of the first Conservative MPs to publicly confirm that he had sent a letter of no confidence in Boris Johnson to the 1922 committee.

He is a known fan of wild open water swimming.

He is Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Preventing Sexual violence in conflict.
