Lyn Brown first elected as the Labour MP for West Ham in 2005, being reelected in 2019 with a massive majority of 32,388.
She serves as Shadow Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Covering the area around Stratford in East London, this is one of the most ethnically diverse and young constituencies in the UK. Census data has shown a quarter of the electorate are black, and a third are Asian. Three quarters of the population are aged under 45.  The Olympic stadium and village can be found within this constituency.  Once close to London’s docking industry, this constituency has been held by Labour at Westminster for one hundred years.
She was formerly the Shadow Minister for Prisons and Probation, having previously served as Shadow Exchequer Secretary and Shadow Minister for Policing.
She supported Owen Smith in his 2016 challenge to Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership.
Born in 1960, Lyn Brown was educated at schools in Newham and the Whitelands College (now part of Roehampton University). She served on the local Newham Council between 1988 and 2005. She worked as a Social Worker before becoming an MP.
Brown was married in the House of Commons Chapel in 2008, in a wedding presided over by fellow Labour MP and vicar, Chris Bryant.  She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Poverty, Uyghurs, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity.
