Biography:

Kris Hopkins was re-elected as Conservative MP for Keighley on May 7th 2015 with 21766 votes, taking 44.3% of the vote.

Kris was born in 1963 and has a daughter. He is a former soldier who lives in Oakworth, Keighley.

After serving with the Duke of Wellington’s regiment, Kris studied for a degree in communications and cultural studies at Leeds University. He then lectured part-time in media theory, communications and digital media.

Kris was elected to Bradford Council in 1998 in Worth Valley. He subsequently became portfolio holder for social services and council housing, and later took on the corporate portfolio.

Following the 2004 elections, he became Deputy Leader of Bradford Council. He was elected as Leader of the Council and Leader of the Conservative Group in May 2006.

He was Chairman of both Bradford Vision, the Local Strategic Partnership, and the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Housing Board. Kris has stood as a Conservative Parliamentary candidate in the last two General Elections: in Leeds West in 2001 and in Halifax in 2005.
