Biography:

Iain Wright was re-elected MP for Hartlepool on May 7th 2015 with 14076 votes, taking 35.6% of the vote.

Iain first became MP for Hartlepool in the by-election in September 2004.

He followed Peter Mandelson as the town’s MP when he left Parliament to become a European commissioner. Since 2015 he has been Chairman of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee.

He previously served on Hartlepool Borough Council from 2002, where he had responsibility for performance management as part of its Cabinet.

His particular political interests are the economy, health and education.

Iain has been married to Tiffiny for ten years and has four children – Ben, Jacob, Hattie and Billy.

Iain was born and bred in Hartlepool and attended Fens and Manor schools.

After studying History at University College, London, he became a chartered accountant. His last job before entering Parliament was as an accountant for One Northeast – the regional development agency.

Iain is a season ticket holder for Hartlepool United.
