Rob Butler is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Aylesbury‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019 with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 17,373.‌
The Aylesbury constituency is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ Buckinghamshire ‌and‌ ‌covers the towns of Aylesbury and Wendover, and the surrounding rural area. Aylesbury is an affluent constituency which has elected a Conservative MP ever since the second World War. It was formerly represented at Westminster by the Conservative Cabinet Minister, and one time Deputy to Theresa May, David Liddington.
Rob Butler was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice in September 2022 under Liz Truss. He left the government when Rishi Sunak became prime minister in October 2022..
He was previously a PPS at the Foreign Office but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born‌ ‌in 1967, Rob Butler studied French and Economics at the University of Sheffield‌. He ‌worked as a TV presenter at the BBC, and then at Channel 5, where he presented the lunchtime news for 7 years. During his television career, he was also a quiz show presenter and documentary reporter.
Later, Butler founded a communication, lobbying, and reputation management consultancy, Butler Corporate Communications and Media Ltd. The register of Members Interests shows that he has continued this media training work on a part time basis after becoming an MP.
A former magistrate, he has also served as a Non Executive Director of the Prison and Probation Service.
He is Vice Chair of the All Party Groups on Australia and New Zealand, on British Overseas Territories, and on Rural Services. He is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Butler supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum, and has been opposed to HS2 which will run straight through his constituency.
