Tracy Brabin is‌ ‌the‌ Labour MP‌ ‌for Batley and Spen‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ a 2016 by-election, after the murder of the former Labour MP, Jo Cox.

The Batley and Spen constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ West Yorkshire ‌and‌ ‌covers‌ Batley, Cleckheaton and Birstall.  It is located between Leeds, Bradford, and Huddersfield.  Tracy ‌was‌ ‌re-elected‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019‌ ‌General‌ ‌Election‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 3,525 over‌ ‌the‌ Conservative‌ Party.‌ ‌

Brabin was appointed Shadow Minister for Cultural Industries in 2020.   In 2021, she was the Labour candidate for the West Yorkshire mayoral posiiton.

Born‌ ‌in 1961 in Batley, Brabin studied drama at Loughborough University and gained a Master of Arts degree in screenwriting from the London College of Communication of the University of the Arts London in 2001.

Prior to entering politics, Tracy was an actress and a television writer.  She starred in several British soap operas, including Coronation Street, EastEnders, Casualty and Emmerdale.

Brabin supported Keir Starmer in the 2020 labour leadership contest.
