Begley, Órfhlaith

Órfhlaith Begley is the Sinn Fein MP for West Tyrone.  She was first elected having won a by election for the seat in May 2018, being re elected in 2019 with a majority of 7,478 over the Democratic Unionist Party.

The West Tyrone constituency is located on the western border of Northern Ireland and the Republic and includes the towns of Strabane and Omagh, the later being the scene of the 1998 IRA car bomb that killed 29 people.   The seat is an overwhelmingly Catholic seat, albeit the unionist Parties have won here in the past when they entered into electoral pacts.

Born in 1991, Ms Begley studied Law at Queen’s University in Belfast and worked as a solicitor in Portadown.   Begley is said to like football and hurling.

Along with other Sinn Fein MPs, Ms Begley does not take her seat in the House of Commons.
