Select committee report shows government was unprepared for Afghanistan evacuation

In an urgent question from Conservative MP John Baron, foreign minister James Cleverly  made a statement on the Afghanistan evacuation following the takeover by the Taliban.

The chair of the foreign affairs select committee, Tom Tugendhat, referred to the select committee report which showed that there was a “lack of plan”, and that the evacuation should not have been a “surprise” as shown by France and Germany’s withdrawal months earlier.

Cleverly told the House of Commons that this “important report” will be “considered fully”, and that that is an “absolute guarantee”.
