Sarah Olney on misogyny and harassment in the Met Police

Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Olney made a speech to Westminster Hall on International Women’s Day regarding reports of misogyny and sexual harassment in the Metropolitan Police. She called for cultural change to focus on “misogyny alongside racism and homophobia”.

Olney recalled the murder of Sarah Everard by a Metropolitan Police officer and described the Met’s response as “not only accepting women fearing the police to be the norm” but also that there was a lack of “responsibility taken”.

The MP for Richmond Park told Westminster Hall that trust has not been “damaged beyond repair” and that Baroness Louise Casey’s independent review should assist in “cultural change”.
