PM criticises Labour’s ‘lust’ to raise taxes as Starmer increases pressure for a windfall tax

During prime minister’s questions, Labour leader Keir Starmer asked which side of the windfall tax debate prime minister Boris Johnson was on as the cost of living crisis intensifies.

Starmer told the House of Commons that while the PM keeps saying that help is coming, “we’ve heard it all before”, and pointed to the chair of Tescos and the the former and current BP bosses as people who have said they would not oppose windfall tax.

Johnson made it clear that the government “don’t want to do it”, criticising Labour’s “lust” to raise taxes on businesses. However, he did not rule out windfall tax.
