MPs call for recognition of ‘truth’ following Champions League final problems

In an urgent question, Labour’s Ian Byrne asked for statement from the government on the problems arising at the Champions League final on 28th May in which fans, including children, were disproportionately targeted by police in a “crush” outside the Stade de France in Paris.

Sports minister Nigel Huddleston welcomed UEFA’s independent investigation and issuing of an apology,

Byrne told the House of Commons, “never ever again should this be tolerated in this country or around the globe”, comparing the vents to Hillsborough.
